Transit Alert -Transit riders in King County, be prepared for possible snow or ice

Posted: 05 Dec 2016 05:17 PM PST

On Monday evening and into Tuesday morning, transit service in King County may be affected by snow or ice.

If Metro service is affected by snow or other weather-related events, the Metro Online website will be updated and Transit Alerts will be sent to affected subscribers.

Metro riders can prepare ahead by visiting Metro Online and familiarizing themselves with information about how Metro operates in the snow, as well as the snow routing for the routes they ride.

When streets are snowy or icy, it is best to be aware of conditions in your immediate area, check media reports, check for transit reroutes, then wait for buses at posted bus stops on the flat portions of arterial streets that have been cleared, or at major transfer points such as transit centers or park and ride lots.

Be prepared for the weather, longer than usual waits and more crowded buses.

While Metro utilizes all available resources to operate service as normally as possible during adverse conditions, the safety of everyone is the highest priority. Buses may be delayed or rerouted, and Metro staff cannot predict affected areas or tell when a specific bus might get to a stop. Transit customers should check the Snow & Ice page for information about their route's status or routing revisions, use the regularly published schedule as a guide, then expect delays.

Everyone's preparedness and patience during snow or other adverse conditions is appreciated.

A few years back, when it was one company, HP made a huge mistake that cost a number of people their jobs and forced the replacement of many of its board members. The company suffered through some nasty litigation and several top executives almost landed in jail. The mistake was tied back to something called "pretexting." It also went by the more common term "identity theft." [More...]

There are three significant trends in CRM right now, according to Matt Keenan, SVP of Aptean's product group. "The first is the rapid evolution of human-system interaction. Fitbit, the leader in the wearables category, is close to an agreement to buy struggling smartwatch maker Pebble for up to $40 million, in a move to gain the firm's intellectual property and software. SC Judge Declares Mistrial, Slager Goes Free

Posted: 05 Dec 2016 12:58 PM PST

South Carolina Judge Clifton Newman on Monday declared a mistrial after a jury failed to reach a unanimous decision in the murder trial of ex-cop Michael Slager, who killed unarmed black man Walter Scott last year. Despite video evidence clearly showing the white officer gunning down Scott as he ran away, the jury ended up in a deadlock of 11 to 1, with the lone holdout telling the judge on Friday that "I cannot and will not change my mind." Newman sent the jury back to resume deliberating on Monday, and ultimately they could not find a unanimous decision.

2. FRENEMIES
Trump Meets With Gore to Talk Climate
Donald Trump and his daughter Ivanka met with former Vice President Al Gore on Monday morning to discuss "climate issues," the president-elect's communications director Jason Miller told reporters. While initially reported that Gore would not meet with Donald, the former vice president revealed upon exiting Trump Tower that he had, indeed, met with the incoming president. "I had a lengthy and very productive session with the president-elect. It was a sincere search for areas of common ground," Gore told pool reporters. "I found it an extremely interesting conversation, and to be continued." The former Democratic presidential nominee supported and campaigned with Hillary Clinton during the 2016 campaign, and has since called for the scrapping of the Electoral College after Clinton won the popular vote but lost the election, just as he did in 2000. Actor Leonardo DiCaprio is also attempting to advise Ivanka Trump on climate issues. He reportedly met with her recently and gave her a copy of a documentary about climate change.

3. TENSION IN THE RANKS
House GOP Leaders Rebuff Trump's Tariff
Top Republicans in the U.S. House on Monday pushed back against President-elect Donald Trump's vow to impose a 35-percent tariff as "retribution" against companies who move overseas. "Any business that leaves our country for another country, fires its employees, builds a new factory or plant in the other country, and then thinks it will sell its product back into the U.S. without retribution or consequence, is WRONG!" Trump declared on Twitter on Sunday morning. "There will be a tax on our soon to be strong border of 35% for these companies wanting to sell their product, cars, A.C. units etc., back across the border." According to The New York Times, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy was not thrilled at the suggestion: "I don't want to get into some kind of trade war," he said. House Speaker Paul Ryan took a more diplomatic approach, telling a Wisconsin reporter, "I think we can get at the goal here, which is keep American businesses American, build things in America and sell them overseas. That can be properly addressed in comprehensive tax reform."

Dad in Hot Car Death: Life, No Parole
Justin Ross Harris, the man convicted three weeks ago in the hot-car death of his 22-month-old son, was sentenced Monday to life in prison without parole. "This is basically the most aggravated killing of another individual, especially a young child… that there's only one sentence that reflects the evil nature of what he did," lead prosecutor Chuck Boring said in requesting the maximum sentence. Ross, now 36, left Cooper strapped into a car seat in the back of his SUV for seven hours, resulting in the child's death. Harris was supposed to take the boy to day care but instead drove straight to work and left the child in his backseat for the duration of the work day.

Patti Smith to Rep Dylan at Nobel Dinner
Patti Smith will perform at the Nobel Prize banquet, representing Bob Dylan in his absence. The rock icon was named the winner of this year's Nobel in literature but, after a prolonged silence, he declined to attend the upcoming official ceremony. In his stead, Smith will perform one of Dylan's most iconic songs, "A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall," in a special arrangement from Hans Ek for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Additionally, as required for Nobel winners, Dylan prepared a speech for his prize, but since he will not be present to read it, Swedish Academy member Horace Engdahl will read it on his behalf.

Pulse Nightclub Owner Won't Sell to City
Barbara Poma, owner of the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, has decided not to sell the property to the city for a memorial, but rather to create a "sanctuary of hope" independently, she announed Monday. The city of Orlando had planned to pay $2.25 million to purchase Pulse—the nightlcub site of a June mass shooting that left 49 people dead—and convert it into a memorial, but Poma expressed Monday that she is no longer interested in selling. Orlando spokeswoman Cassandra Lafser released a statement that city officials respect the decision "and are hopeful the Pulse site continues to be a place of hope and healing that honors the victims."

Mosul Recapture 'Possible' Under Obama
It is "possible" that the coalition forces could recapture the ISIS stronghold of Mosul in Iraq before Donald Trump is sworn in as president in January, Defense Secretary Ash Carter said Monday. "That is certainly possible and again it is going to be a tough fight," Carter said. The Mosul offensive began on Oct. 17, and in recent days ISIS militants have fought back more intensely. A mix of Iraqi government troops, Kurds and Shi'ite militias are participating in the offensive. Carter added that troop presence in Iraq will be important even after ISIS is defeated. "In Iraq in particular, it will be necessary for the coalition to prove sustained assistance and carry on our work to train, equip, and support local police, border guards, and other forces to hold areas cleared from ISIL," Carter said.

10. 'GARLAND TREATMENT'
Dems Seek to Stall Trump Cabinet Picks
Democrats in Congress say they are planning to give Donald Trump and the GOP the "Garland treatment" for the president-elect's Cabinet nominations, stemming from Senate Republicans' refusal to give Merrick Garland, President Obama's Supreme Court nominee, a hearing. "They've been rewarded for stealing a Supreme Court justice. We're going to help them confirm their nominees, many of whom are disqualified?" said Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio. "It's not obstruction, it's not partisan, it's just a duty to find out what they'd do in these jobs." One of the many disruption tactics Democrats could employ would be to force as much as 30 hours of debate on a particular nominee, thereby delaying the process and preventing the GOP from getting other legislation through.

140-character foreign policy

What is U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's end game with taking on the Chinese government on Twitter? Two things are for certain: He let it be known he wouldn't be told by China who he should or shouldn't talk to, and he was continuing to follow through on a campaign promise to make U.S. foreign policy unpredictable. –Emily Banks

The UK Dominates
To get an edge in an increasingly global business world, MBA seekers often travel abroad in search of the hottest management programs. To guide you, here's our annual ranking of full-time international MBA programs, based on data we compiled from more than 1,000 recruiters, 15,000 alumni, and 9,000 recent graduates. (We published our 2016 ranking of the top U.S. MBA programs last month.)
Here are today's top stories...

Trump's unpredictable foreign policy is here. In the span of a week, the president-elect slammed China over currency and trade, had an unprecedented call with Taiwan's leader, praised the Philippine president's violent war on drugs and promised to visit Pakistan, effectively upending years of foreign policy.

Sony has a hit that's as big as Pokemon Go in Japan. Sony has quietly dispatched its rival Nintendo with Fate/Grand Order. The mobile game, based on an anime TV series called Fate, allows players to travel back in time and team up with historical figures like Julius Caesar, Leonardo da Vinci, and Joan of Arc to rescue humanity from looming disaster.

Italy fell into political limbo after Prime Minister Matteo Renzi announced his resignation, with rival parties jockeying to fill the vacuum. Renzi becomes the second European leader this year after David Cameron to be toppled by a global anti-establishment tide, one that has propelled Donald Trump to the White House and is pushing Britain out of the EU.

New York City will get a 1,020-foot skydeck near Grand Central, providing another choice for a high-altitude view of the city. The new Midtown tower, 1 Vanderbilt, will be the city's second-tallest skyscraper and will have an indoor-outdoor observation deck more than 1,000 feet up. It's slated for completion in 2020.

If you're using Instagram as a way to figure out where the cool kids are traveling, expect to be steered to the largest hotels on earth.
