The trial of the white police officer who shot and killed an unarmed black man in the back before allegedly framing him has begun, with both sides offering explosive arguments.
Great reviews for Gibson's new film, Hacksaw Ridge, raise the question of whether audiences can forgive his past. But a strange promo tour suggests he's more annoyed than sorry.
Tons of tank shells arrive in Moscow unaccounted for, raising questions about a Russian president who talks tough to the world, but is losing control inside his country.

Commuters heading home and fans heading to the game are advised to expect possibly significant transit service delays before the November 7 Monday night football game at CenturyLink Field. Most impacts are expected to be in the SODO, stadium, Pioneer Square, downtown Seattle and adjacent areas, however, service that travels near or through those areas could be delayed in other areas as well. Kickoff time is at 5:30 PM.
While riding transit remains a good way to get to and from the game, transit riders may also experience delays or crowded buses for an hour or so after the game ends as well.
Both regular transit commuters and football fans are advised to plan for the expected delays and allow plenty of travel time in all areas on Monday.
There is no special park-and-ride shuttle bus service or fares for weeknight games, as there is for weekend games.Payment of a valid regular fare is required on all transit trips.
Both for ease of travel, and reducing traffic congestion, Seahawks fans are encouraged to ride regularly scheduled transit service, including Sound Transit's Link light rail, to and from the game.
There is lots of regular service to and from the stadium area. Nearly all transit service that travels to or through downtown Seattle stops near CenturyLink Field, and there are many area park-and-ride lots where fans can park for free, and ride regularly scheduled transit service into the stadium area.
For complete information about planning your trip to and from CenturyLink Field or other locations, visit Metro's online Trip Planner. When planning transit trips, be sure to visit Metro's Alerts page to find out if service you are riding is affected by any planned reroutes.
Thank you for riding and for using Metro's services.
It may never end. No, not that—the 2016 campaign mercifully concludes next week. But in the UK, things got a lot messier after a court ruled Prime Minister Theresa May must consult with Parliament before cutting the EU cord. The decision heaps more doubt on an already murky process that may take years to play out. At the very least, opposition lawmakers say they would use any vote to get more information on EU negotiations. Meanwhile, May remains unbowed, pledging both an appeal to a higher court and to maintain her existing Brexit timeline.
In America, meanwhile, almost everyone gets to be a Chicago Cubs fan (sorry Cleveland) before taking the plunge into the fateful denouement of this unprecedented presidential election. —David E. Rovella
There are many theories why the NFL's ratings are falling, including the concussion scandal(s), domestic violence, cord-cutting, terrible football, a lack of star players, and even the election. Some even blame Colin Kaepernick. Whether it's one or some or all of the above, there's no mistaking the fact that this uniquely American game is no longer the TV colossus it once was.
Here are today's top stories...
The Republican National Committee was ordered by a court to reveal so-called ballot-security measures it plans for the presidential election, expanding an earlier demand by Democrats who suspect a broad effort by the GOP to intimidate minority voters. A New Jersey federal judge gave the RNC until Thursday to provide an affidavit detailing planned poll watching or observation on Nov. 8.
How to stop America's oily black heart. An Alabama construction crew triggered a massive explosion Monday when they pierced the biggest fuel pipeline in the U.S. The blast killed one, injured several, and sparked a wildfire that burned across 31 acres. The 5,500-mile Colonial Pipeline delivers about half of the refined products used on the East Coast. This is what happens when someone hits the country's fuel aorta with a track-hoe.
Whoa, Brexit—here come the lawyers. The UK's conservative government lost a round in court, with judges holding that legislators must be consulted. Naturally, Prime Minister Theresa May will appeal. The nation's seven-year-old supreme court will hear the government challenge. Brexit Secretary David Davis said "we're presuming" a bill passed through both houses of Parliament will eventually be required to complete the process.
Wells Fargo took care of its executives and fired5,000 low-level workers.More than a dozen past and current Wells Fargo employees, many of them senior managers, chronicle how a generation of executives thrived in its ambitious sales culture, winning accolades and promotions. All the while, those under them were opening legions of unwanted accounts for customers. Guess who paid the price?
The moment Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant scooped up the ball and chucked it over to first for the final out of the 2016 World Series, workers 300 miles away began heat-sealing embroidered patches bearing the Cubs' logo onto championship caps. It's been 108 years since the Cubs last won, and a lot of people would want one to commemorate the end of the drought.
Ahh, the simple respite found in the pale lager of moderate strength named after the Bohemian city where it was first brewed. Here are eight great examples of the genre to reach for when you're wishing brewers would just make beer taste great again.

According to Radar Online, excerpts added at the last minute to Megyn Kelly's upcoming memoir detail alleged instances of sexual harassment on the part of deposed Fox News boss Roger Ailes. Kelly claims in the book that the harassment began in 2005, shortly after she was hired as a legal correspondent for the cable channel's D.C. bureau. The Fox News star writes that an editor informed her that she had "captured the attention of Mr. Ailes" and that she would begin meeting with the then-CEO in his Manhattan office. "Roger began pushing the limits," she claims in excerpts obtained by Radar. "There was a pattern to his behavior. I would be called into Roger's office, he would shut the door, and over the next hour or two, he would engage in a kind of cat-and-mouse game with me—veering between obviously inappropriate sexually charged comments (e.g. about the 'very sexy bras' I must have and how he'd like to see me in them) and legitimate professional advice." Kelly also claims Ailes offered to promote her through the ranks "in exchange for sexual favors." At one point, she writes, he "crossed a new line—trying to grab me repeatedly and kiss me on the lips." Upon her rebuffing his advances, she recalls, "he asked me an ominous question: 'When is your contract up?' And then, for the third time, he tried to kiss me." Additionally, the report says, Kelly describes how Fox News PR commenced an "intense campaign" to get her and other network stars speak out in defense of Ailes following the initial lawsuit filed by former anchor Gretchen Carson. "I was approached several times, and several times I refused," Kelly writes. "There was no way I was going to lie to protect him."

In her first speech since the Republican National Convention, Melania Trump railed against cyber-bullying and lamented a culture that has become "too mean," all without a hint of irony (considering her husband Donald's track record of lobbing insults at others). "Technology has changed our universe, but like anything, it can have a bad side," she said during a rally in Berwyn, Pennsylvania. Teenage bullying on the internet, she continued, can "make life hard and can force [victims] to hide and retreat," because "they are hurt when they are made fun of or made to feel less in looks or intelligence." She then declared: "Our culture has gotten too mean and too rough... [W]e have to find a better way to talk to each other, to disagree with each other, to respect each other." Her husband, however, has become well-known for insulting both the looks and intelligence of his rivals—from mocking former GOP primary rival Carly Fiorina's face to mimicking a disabled reporter's hand movements to calling countless commentators, journalists, and public figures "dummies."
Federal officials are investigating a Russian sports agent connected to the upcoming New York City Marathon for bribery and corruption, according to a New York Times report. The agent, Andrey Baranov, has not been charged with a crime, but officials are looking into whether he worked with U.S. marathon officials in order to allow runners to use banned substances during the event. According to the Times, Baranov has in the past been considered a whistleblower "who exposed cheating and corruption in track and field." In an interview with the Times, Baranov denied facilitating doping among athletes competing in the marathon, and said he did not know the investigation was taking place.
Around 40 million people watched game 7 of the World Series on Wednesday night between the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Indians, according to preliminary data. The Cubs defeated the Indians, 8-7, in the 10th inning to win their first championship since 1908. Game 6, which was played the night before, averaged around 23 million viewers. Previous MLB game 7 contests in 2011 and 2014 averaged 25.4 million and 23.5 million viewers, respectively. Wednesday evening's finale was also the highest-rated MLB game since the 2001 Game 7 between the New York Yankees and Arizona Diamondbacks, which garnered a 27.0 rating, according to Nielsen data.
President Obama had some fun at Senator Marco Rubio's expense Thursday during a Miami rally for Hillary Clinton. Rubio, who is running for re-election in Florida, voted early for both himself and Donald Trump this week, despite the fact that he once said of the Republican nominee, "Friends don't let friends vote for con artists." In response, Obama shot back, "Obviously, he didn't have good enough friends." Rubio's decision to put his misgivings aside and vote for Trump just demonstrated, in the president's view, that he is someone who will "say anything or be anything, be anybody, just so you can get elected and cling to power." With five days to go until Election Day, Rubio currently leads his Democratic opponent by about four to five points.
Penn State was fined $2.4 million by the Department of Education on Thursday as part of a report which found that the university routinely failed to be transparent about reported crimes on campus from 1998 to 2011. That period of time coincided with a grand jury investigation of former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky's sexual abuse of children. It was a scathing rebuke of how the university violated the Clery Act, named after a Lehigh University student who was raped and murdered in 1986. The law says universities must compile crime stats and be transparent about reported rapes and sexual assaults on campus.
Long-time Fox News contributor Tucker Carlson has been named the new host of On the Record, the 7 p.m. nightly show previously hosted by Greta Van Susteren up until her abrupt departure in September. Carlson has co-hosted Fox & Friends weekend edition since 2013, but has not had a primetime talk show since his failed MSNBC show, Tucker. Before that, he had hosted CNN's Crossfire, which famously met its demise shortly after Jon Stewart appeared on the pundit-heavy program to rail against political punditry itself. Carlson will become the full-time host of On the Record starting Nov. 14, after the election. Brit Hume has been the show's interim host since Van Susteren exited. Carlson is also the founder of right-wing news site The Daily Caller, and has openly admitted that he bans his publication from printing negative stories about Fox News because of his employment with the network.
The FBI is launching an internal probe into one of its Twitter accounts, according to a report. The account in question, @FBIRecordsVault, tweeted for the first time in over a year on Oct. 30 with a link to documents relating to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's father, Fred Trump. Two days later, the account tweeted a link to documents relating to Bill Clinton's pardon of Marc Rich. The investigation is going forward over concerns that the agency is attempting to influence the outcome of the election. The FBI, for its part, says the documents were posted and tweeted "automatically and electronically to the FBI's public reading room in according with the law and established procedures."
At least 240 migrants drowned Thursday off the coast of Libya when their boats capsized, according to officials with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees. Survivors relayed the news to officials on the Italian island of Lampedusa, however no bodies have been found. More than 4,000 migrants have died in the Mediterranean Sea this year alone. They often end up on the shores of European nations like Italy and Greece.
Chicago Cubs superfan Bill Murray became overwhelmed by emotion while watching his team win the World Series in Cleveland against the Indians. The game lasted 10 innings, and the victory ended the team's 108-year championship drought. Murray was one of many celebrities on the field after the game, but he took the opportunity to honk the horn on the new car awarded to MVP Ben Zobrist. He pretended to be a Fox Sports reporter in the locker room and drank a heroic amount of Champagne.

Broadcom Sews Up $5B Deal for Brocade Chip manufacturer Broadcom on Wednesday announced that it would buy Brocade Communications, a major supplier of fiber channel storage area networking technology to data centers, for $5.5 billion in cash and the assumption of Brocade's $400 million debt. That represents a 47 percent premium over Brocade's closing share price last week, said Brocade CEO Lloyd Carney. http://www.ecommercetimes.com/story/84057.html
Amazon Builds Fulfillment Centers, Investors Grouse Amazon shares closed at $785.14 on Monday, having failed to rebound from last week's slide. The company's stock had closed at $818.36 last Thursday, just before the company reported third-quarter earnings that unpleasantly surprised Wall Street. Its share price dove $40-plus on Friday. Amazon's net income rose 52 cents a share, in the quarter, but analysts had expected 78 cents a share. http://www.ecommercetimes.com/story/84054.html
Microsoft Rebrands Microsoft recently rebranded its business software offerings and the effect largely has been positive. Still, it must be emphasized that the cumulative effect of the deck chairs moved in performing the exercise remains to be seen. One of the effects is surely that all of the ERP and CRM solutions now are offered online, as the "Dynamics 365" moniker implies. http://www.ecommercetimes.com/story/84056.html
Tech Industry Lambasts New FCC Privacy Rules The U.S. FCC last week adopted privacy rules for both wired and wireless broadband ISPs aimed at giving consumers greater control over their data, more privacy, and stronger security safeguards for that data. The rules implement Section 222 of the Communications Act. They establish a framework of customer consent required for ISPs to use and share their customers' personal information. http://www.ecommercetimes.com/story/84052.html
Tech Billionaire Thiel Aims to Justify His Trump Support Peter Thiel, one of the few well-known Silicon Valley figures who has given Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump a public endorsement, on Monday reiterated his support at a National Press Club event in Washington. He prefaced his remarks with a disclaimer. "Nobody thinks his comments about women were acceptable," Thiel told the gathering, referring to Trump. http://www.ecommercetimes.com/story/84047.html
Many Customers Aren't on Board With Self-Service Trend Enterprises have been warming to digital transformation, but it's crucial that they maintain a human element in their customer interactions, according to a study Verint published last week. Researchers surveyed more than 24,000 consumers and 1,000 businesses across 12 countries for the study. Organizations have to balance digital and human customer engagement to thrive and survive. http://www.ecommercetimes.com/story/84051.html
Should Salesforce Buy NetSuite? The recently released spreadsheet hacked from Salesforce board member Colin Powell's email names multiple companies that Salesforce was at least considering acquiring. In the aftermath of the initial reports, it's worth noticing that there were at least two enterprise resource planning/back office companies on the list: Workday and NetSuite. There are plenty of reasons to dismiss acquisition talk. http://www.ecommercetimes.com/story/84045.html

Lenovo's Yoga Book Aims for Top Shelf Lenovo's recently unveiled 2-in-1, the Yoga Book, is available in Android Marshmallow and Windows 10 Home versions. Reviews have been mixed, with some praising its look and feel, but some considering its capabilities not up to scratch. Its Intel Atom processor doesn't provide enough power for a workhorse device, they've argued. The Android version costs $500 and the Windows version goes for $550. http://www.technewsworld.com/story/84055.html
Q4OS+Trinity Gives New Meaning to Lightweight Q4OS is a lightweight Linux distro that offers some worthwhile alternatives to more established distros. Q4OS version 1.6.1 "Orion," released this summer, has as its main claim to fame the developing Trinity desktop. Trinity is a breakaway fork from the KDE 3 community. I took a detailed first look at this new distro last year, primarily to assess the Trinity desktop. http://www.technewsworld.com/story/84049.html
Microsoft: Google's Policy Endangers Windows Users Google on Monday posted to the Internet a previously unpublicized flaw that could pose a security threat to users of the Microsoft Windows operating system. Google notified both Microsoft and Adobe of zero day vulnerabilities in their software on Oct. 21, wrote Neel Mehta and Billy Leonard, members of Google's Threat Analysis Group, in an online post. http://www.technewsworld.com/story/84053.html
MIT's Nightmare Machine Churns Out AI-Generated Horror In honor of Halloween, researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab launched the Nightmare Machine website, which allows visitors to vote on AI-generated horror images created via an open source deep neural network algorithm developed last year. Scientists from the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization collaborated on the project. http://www.technewsworld.com/story/84048.html
Apple vs. Microsoft: Remixing the Magic What I think is funny in this market is that most people can look at two companies, see the difference in their performance, and not learn the fundamental lesson. The core magic is this: having someone who is running the company who both understands the technology and understands either the customer's current needs -- or how to manipulate customers to need what you make. http://www.technewsworld.com/story/84046.html
Bot Armies Boost Candidates' Popularity on Twitter Internet bots have many useful online purposes, but they have a dark side, too, as three researchers demonstrated in their analysis of Twitter traffic during the first presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Bots are used to automate functions on the Net. For example, if you belong to several social networks, you could use a bot to post a photo to all of them at once. http://www.technewsworld.com/story/84044.html
Apple Brings a Surprising Touch to MacBook Event Apple on Thursday unveiled two new MacBook Pro laptops, adding a touch more power to the line. Both the new 13-inch and 15-inch models will be offered in silver and space gray. They have a Touch Bar that replaces the row of function keys found on laptops, as well as a Touch ID fingerprint scanner incorporated into the power button. They sport a Force Touch trackpad that's twice the size of the trackpad in previous models. http://www.technewsworld.com/story/84040.html
Microsoft Open Sources AI Toolkit Microsoft has released an updated version of its Microsoft Cognitive Toolkit as an open source Beta. The deep learning system is used to speed advances in areas such as speech and image recognition and search relevance on CPUs and Nvidia GPUs. It also works with Microsoft's Azure GPU offering. The toolkit's developers initially were looking for a tool to speed up and improve their own research. http://www.technewsworld.com/story/84043.html
Conspiracy Theories in the Information Age, Part 1 One of the most volatile conspiracy theories in recent times ended with a whimper last month, when Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump made the terse statement, "President Barack Obama was born in the U.S. Period." Though birthers may be with us always, it seems many have turned their attention to other potentially scandalous topics -- and they need look no further than the Internet. http://www.technewsworld.com/story/84039.html
Xiaomi Debuts Magical Mi Mix Xiaomi on Tuesday fired another shot in the shrinking bezel wars, as it announced a smartphone with a front that's more than 90 percent display. The Mi Mix is a 6.4-inch phone that's stylishly crafted by French designer Philippe Starck. It sports a feature set that indicates Xiaomi wants to compete at the high end of the smartphone market. The Mi Mix has a screen-to-body ratio of 91.3 percent. http://www.technewsworld.com/story/84037.html

In 2016, the following things have happened: The Chicago Cubs won the World Series after 108 years, Cleveland won a championship (albeit not last night), the U.K. voted to separate from the European Union, Bob Dylan won a Nobel Prize, and Brad and Angelina broke up. One could be forgiven for thinking that hell is finally freezing over. But however you look at it, we are living in very interesting times. In five days, America will make history, one way or another. We will either select our first female president, pick a true mold-breaking non-politician, or face a 2000-esque stand-off that paralyzes courts, fuels a media maelstrom and inflames passions around the country. No big deal. So where does the race tactually stand as we dive headlong into Tuesday?
There are several new polls that double down on the narrative that the race has tightened. The latest New York Times/CBS News national poll has Hillary Clinton at 45% and Donald Trump at 42%, within the poll's margin of error. Today's ABC News-Washington Post national survey has Clinton up 2 points. And in battleground news, a WBUR Poll shows a virtual tie in New Hampshire (as the Boston Globe prepares to release its own Granite state numbers later today), and a University of Denver poll has the candidates deadlocked in a tie.
These numbers, the ongoing hum of controversy from the FBI and WikiLeaks, and the positive tone and spin coming from the Trump camp has some Democrats in a fearful frenzy. And they're not alone—Trump's resurgence has the markets and some of the Hollywood elite on edge as well. But everyone would do well to consider the trend lines in this race and Clinton's built-in electoral college firewall. So, what's the good news for Clinton? What's the good news for Trump? And what should a thinking person make of it all? We'll break down all the latest polls and unpack the various paths each candidate has (or doesn't have) to 270.
We'll also have a round-up review of surrogate performances on the campaign trail. How did Melania Trump do in a rare speaking role in Pennsylvania today? And how is President Obama helping Clinton, and baiting Trump?
Mark Halperin, John Heilemann and team Bloomberg Politics break it all down tonight on With All Due Respect.
"Barring a sudden and dramatic turnaround, Donald Trump is on track to become the first Republican presidential nominee since the dawn of modern exit polling in 1956 to lose among white voters with a college degree. Losing this constituency in Tuesday's election may be enough to deliver the White House to Hillary Clinton, who remains favored to win even as polls continue to tighten....With college-educated women powering Clinton's support, the findings show educational attainment to be a crucial fault line in the 2016 election. It has contributed to Clinton's months-long lead nationally and in more educated swing states like Virginia and Colorado, where defeat could doom Trump."
"Hillary Clinton on Wednesday laid out her final argument to voters still wavering over their presidential choice, asking Americans to "imagine" how Donald Trump would conduct himself in the Oval Office....The tightness of the race — and the multiple states poised to have a pivotal effect on the outcome — was apparent in the vast distances covered by both candidates and their surrogates Wednesday, as well as the tens of millions of dollars in advertising lined up to fill the airwaves in the last days. A bullish Trump spent the day in Florida, assuring supporters that he was on the path to victory, while his running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, raced through Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado. Trump's children also campaigned in key battlegrounds on his behalf, making stops in Colorado, North Carolina, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas — Trump's long-lasting rival in the primary contest — was set to appear with Pence Thursday in Iowa and Michigan."
"Despite the distraction, Abedin, 40, is going through with an exclusive fundraiser set for Thursday night in Washington, which she is set to headline with fashion titans Anna Wintour and Diane Von Furstenberg at the home of Jefferson Hotel owner Connie Milstein. "Huma is beautiful, brilliant, and chic in the eyes of everyone who has worked with her," Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine, said Wednesday in a statement provided by the campaign. "Secretary Clinton has benefited from her support and wisdom for twenty years." The Michigan-born, Saudi-raised Abedin has achieved something of cult following among some Clinton backers, especially some of her most prominent women donors. It stems from a combination of her sense of style and her grace and in part because of her role as a gatekeeper who enjoys almost a daughter-mother proximity to the Democratic nominee."
"Senior FBI officials were informed about the discovery of new emails potentially relevant to the investigation of Hillary Clinton's private email server at least two weeks before Director James B. Comey notified Congress, according to federal officials familiar with the investigation. The officials said that Comey was told that there were new emails before he received a formal briefing last Thursday, although the precise timing is unclear. The information goes beyond the details provided in the letter that Comey sent to lawmakers last week declaring that he was restarting the inquiry into whether Clinton mishandled classified material during her tenure as secretary of state. He wrote in the Friday letter that "the investigative team briefed me yesterday" about the additional emails. The people familiar with the investigation said that senior officials had been informed weeks earlier..."
"Two former allies of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie accused of creating traffic havoc near the George Washington Bridge asked for a mistrial following a dispute over whether the judge improperly instructed deliberating jurors on the law. It's unclear precisely why the defense is seeking a mistrial. Lawyers for Bridget Anne Kelly and Bill Baroni filed the request Thursday morning in federal court in Newark, where jurors are supposed to start a fourth day of deliberations. The request came in a four-page court filing that was entirely blacked out after a single sentence requesting a mistrial."
"President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia dismisses the idea that he has the power to interfere with Tuesday's election. "Does anyone seriously think that Russia can affect the choice of the American people?" he asked during a foreign policy conference last week in the resort city of Sochi. "What, is America a banana republic? America's a great power. Correct me if I'm wrong." America's top intelligence officials say he is highly unlikely to be able to alter the results. But they expect Russian hackers, or others, to try to disrupt the process — perhaps to help Donald J. Trump, but more likely to simply undercut what Mr. Putin views as America's holier-than-thou attitudes about its democratic procedures."
