1. CONFIRMED
ISIS Confirms Jihadi John Is Dead
ISIS confirmed that the man known as Jihadi John was killed on November 12th 2015 in the latest issue of its Dabiq magazine. U.S. intelligence officials said in November that they believed a Friday drone strike hit the man believed to be Mohammed Emwazi. In its article highlighting the most famous jihadi's death, ISIS referred to him as Abū Muhārib al-Muhājir. The masked figure dubbed Jihadi John skyrocketed to worldwide infamy after he appeared in the execution video of American journalist James Foley. He is also believed to have executed Americans Steven Sotloff and Peter Kassig, as well as other western hostages. "A side of Abū Muhārib that wasn't witnessed except by those who knew him was his mercy, kindness, and gener-osity towards the believers, his protective jealousy for Islam and its people, and his affection towards the orphans," the obituary read. "Of the deeds that attest to his kindness and generosity is that after receiving a sabiyyah (concubine) as a gift he did not hesitate to give her away – likewise as a gift – to an unmar-ried injured brother." —Katie Zavadski

GOP Lawmaker: Register All Journalists
A Republican lawmaker from South Carolina wants to require registration for professional journalists in his state. State Rep. Mike Pitts introduced Tuesday a bill called the South Carolina Responsible Journalism Registry Law. According to the Post and Courier, "the bill would create requirements for people wanting to work as a journalist for a media outlet, and also before that outlet could hire anyone for a reporting position." Pitts' law would give the South Carolina secretary of state authority over a "responsible journalism registry" that would also establish the proper qualifications of a journalist, much like how lawyers and doctors are overseen by a board. The proposed law comes as Pitts' response to what he feels is unfair media coverage of gun owners.

Almost 10 percent of American college graduates incorrectly believe TV personality Judith Sheindlin, best known as "Judge Judy," serves as a justice on the Supreme Court of the United States. The newly released study, conducted by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni, found that college grads "are alarmingly ignorant of America's history and heritage," including a majority unable to identify the requirement for Congress to ratify constitutional amendments.

6. DISCERNING
Bowie Rejected Coldplay Collaboration
David Bowie apparently did not mince words. Coldplay drummer Will Champion revealed in an interview, published Tuesday, that the late rock 'n' roll legend turned down his pop-rock band's request for a collaboration. According to Champion, the British band—set to headline this year's Super Bowl halftime show—wrote a song with a multi-part harmony, with Bowie in mind as a vocalist. When frontman Chris Martin asked the Thin White Duke to participate, however, Bowie was rather blunt: "It's not a very good song, is it?"

IG: Hillary Home Server Had Secret Intel
An intelligence community inspector general told senior congressional officials that emails on Hillary Clinton's unsecured home computer server contained information from some of the U.S. government's most secretive and classified programs. In an unclassified letter sent to senior lawmakers on Jan. 14, the IG reports a review reportedly found classified emails with information from what is known as "special access programs," those that go above the classification of "top secret," and are far more sensitive than the sort of intelligence previously thought to be contained in some of the former secretary of state's private emails.

10. MAKING A MURDERER
Avery's Ex: He Tied Me Up, Too
Jodi Stachowski, an ex-fiancée of Steven Avery, says she was once tied to a bedpost with rope in forced circumstances by the Making a Murderer subject, in ways similar to those described in a controversial confession aired in the Netflix docu-series. Stachowski said Avery wanted to have sex while she was restrained, but she was so adamant he backed down. She told TMZ that Avery often used fear as a weapon, including in a letter she received from him in August, in which he asked her for money. In a confession that legal advocates say was psychologically coerced, Avery nephew Brendan Dassey told investigators his uncle tied up, raped, and burned the body of a Wisconsin woman, though no forensic evidence was found to corroborate the claim.

Why an Ex-Google Coder Makes Twice as Much Freelancing
