Editor's Pick: Gadget Gives Passwords Pocket Protectors

Posted: 09 Dec 2015 03:31 PM PST

John P. Mello Jr.
Dec 9, 2015 7:23 AM PT
Denis Clermont and Jérôme Jadot last month launched a Kickstarter campaign for the OdyOne digital identity manager. As much as many Web travelers and security experts would like usernames and passwords to disappear from use, the pesky credentials aren't going away anytime soon. That's why password managers are seen as a way to make the best of a bad situation. [More...]

Mozilla Launches Free Ad Blocker for iOS 9
Mozilla on Monday launched Focus by Firefox, a free ad blocker for Safari users on iOS 9. It lets users block the same trackers blocked by Private Browsing with Tracking Protection in Firefox for the Windows, Mac, Linux and Android platforms. The protection is based on Disconnect's open source block list. Focus by Firefox doesn't work with Firefox. [More...]

Yahoo on Wednesday announced that its board of directors decided to suspend plans to spin off its Alibaba holdings and instead will undertake a reverse spinoff, transferring its other assets and liabilities to a newly formed company. 1. SURPRISE!
U.S. Neo-Nazi Leader: Trump 'Real Deal'
The Republican presidential frontrunner has earned the praise of one of America's leading neo-Nazi politicians. "Donald Trump is the real deal," William Daniel Johnson, chairman of the white-supremacist American Freedom Party told teleSUR on Wednesday. "This is a unique phenomenon in modern politics. It is a throwback to a previous era," he added. In the past, Johnson and his party have called for the stripping of citizenship for all but "non-Hispanic whites of the European race."

Scalia: Affirmative Action Hurts Blacks
During Wednesday oral arguments in a Supreme Court case on affirmative action, Justice Antonin Scalia argued that black Americans do not benefit from race-based quota policies. "They're being pushed into schools that are too advanced for them," he reportedly said of black students. "Most of the black scientists in this country do not come from the most advanced schools," the justice added. He said they benefited from a "slower track." Scalia has long opposed affirmative-action policies in higher education and is almost certain to vote against it in this case.

6. SERIOUSLY?
Kasich: I'd Support Trump as Nominee
No candidate on either side has been more vehemently outspoken against Donald Trump than Ohio Gov. John Kasich. And yet when Kasich was asked Wednesday if he would support Donald Trump as a candidate, he balked and referenced the pledge he signed promising to support any Republican nominee."I signed the pledge, which is why you have to be careful with pledges you sign," Kasich said, drawing some of the few laughs that escaped mouths at a sleepy Council on Foreign Relations event."But I will tell you, sir, there's no way that Donald Trump is going to be president. He isn't going to win. It's not going to happen. And maybe we can all learn a little lesson from all of this," Kasich said after suggesting that "something extreme" could cause him to break the pledge.Jeb Bush has similarly punted the ball in response to questions about supporting Trump as the nominee. Kasich's campaign did not respond when asked by The Daily Beast what comment would be extreme enough to get him to abandon the pledge.—Gideon Resnick

AIDS Profiteer Pays $2M for Wu-Tang LP
Bloomberg Business revealed Wednesday that the mystery buyer of the Wu-Tang Clan's single-copy album Once Upon a Time in Shaolin is none other than infamous pharmaceutical CEO Martin Shkreli, who became a household villain after he purchased an AIDS drug and then raised the price by roughly 5,000 percent. Shkreli reportedly paid $2 million for the coveted record, and plans to save listening to it for a "rainy day." Staving off potential backlash against the iconic rap group, Wu-Tang leader RZA issued a statement that the sale was agreed upon in May, before Shkreli's business practices became known. "We decided to give a significant portion of the proceeds to charity," the rapper added.

SR 520 News of the Week

Posted: 09 Dec 2015 01:19 PM PST

SR 520 westbound lanes will be closed this Sunday, Dec. 13, while I-90's eastbound general-purpose lanes will be closed for the weekend

SR 520 and I-90 team up for second weekend closure to keep cross-lake traffic flowing

Going west across the lake this Sunday or early Monday morning? Take I-90. Going east? Consider SR 520

SR 520 will be closed in one direction this weekend as crews working on the West Approach Bridge North (WABN) Project continue to demolish parts of the 24th Avenue East overpass in Seattle's Montlake neighborhood. To safely complete this work, crews must close SR 520 lanes directly below the work area.

This closure dovetails with an I-90 weekend closure so that drivers will be able to cross Lake Washington on one bridge or the other, depending on the direction. This weekend, I-90's eastbound general-purpose lanes across the lake will close from Friday night to Monday morning, while SR 520 will close westbound from Sunday to Monday. The SR 520 work allows crews to stay on schedule to open up a new westbound SR 520 off-ramp to East Lake Washington Boulevard early next year.

Closure details

Weekend of Dec. 11 – 14

Closure map for the weekend of Dec. 11

All lanes and ramps of westbound SR 520 between 92nd Avenue Northeast and Montlake Boulevard will be closed from 6 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, to 5 a.m., Monday, Dec. 14.

During this closure, eastbound I-90 will be reduced to one lane near Rainier Avenue South then rerouted to the express lanes from 11 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, to continue construction of transit and HOV lanes.
