Transit Alert - Ride Metro to Seahawks games

Posted: 12 Aug 2015 05:13 PM PDT

While Metro will operate dedicated shuttle service from and to the Eastgate P&R, Northgate Transit Center and South Kirkland P&R for regular season weekend games, fans are also encouraged to ride regularly scheduled transit service from all other locations and for all pre-season and weekday games, starting with the pre-season opener on Friday, August 14.

Metro riders not attending games should be prepared for possible transit service delays before and after Seahawks games. All travelers in the SODO, Pioneer Square and downtown Seattle areas can expect traffic congestion and delays before and after Seahawks games and other stadium events.

Nearly all regularly scheduled transit service – including Sound Transit Link light rail – that serves downtown Seattle, travels to or near CenturyLink Field, and is a great way to get to Seahawks games and other stadium events.

Starting with the first regular season home game on September 27, Metro will operate Seahawks weekend game day non-stop shuttle bus service from - and return to - the Eastgate P&R, Northgate Transit Center and South Kirkland P&R during the 2015/16 season.

The P&R Shuttles leave each of the three parking areas 2 hours prior to kick off time as they fill, with the last bus leaving about 30 minutes before kickoff.

The P&R shuttles will not operate for weekday pre-season games, including this Friday’s pre-season opener. Expect significant traffic congestion before and after these games.

A cash-only, exact fare of $4 one way or $8 round trip per person is required on the shuttles. No ORCA cards, passes or transfers are accepted.  A valid regular fare is required on all other regularly scheduled Metro service.

All pre-game shuttles arrive near CenturyLink Field on 5th Av S at S Weller St.

After the game, buses returning to Eastgate and South Kirkland leave from southbound on 5th Av S at S Weller St, and the Northgate Shuttle leaves northbound on 5th Av S from just north of S Weller St.

The last bus leaves 45 minutes after the end of the game.

For information about regular transit service to Seahawks games, or to plan other trips, visit Metro Online or Metro’s online Trip Planner. When planning your trip, check Metro’s Service Advisories page to find out about any planned revisions to your routes.

Metro is hiring
Driving part-time for Metro is ideal for anyone who wants work without weekend or late-night hours. For more information visit

Insider trading schemes can damage confidence in the markets, noted Jake Olcott, a former legal advisor to the Senate Commerce Committee. "Any time you get a situation like this, where it causes people to question the underlying premise of the market, it raises fundamental questions in the minds of investors about the system and can undercut confidence in the system." 1. TERRIFYING
Enormous Explosion Rocks Chinese City
An enormous explosion hit Tianjin, China, in the minutes before midnight Thursday. Tianjin, located in northern China, is home to more than 15 million people. The blast came from an accident involving an explosives shipment, according to the South China Morning Post, citing state TV reports. Russell Dengel, a space science and engineering researcher at the University of Wisconsin, says the explosion's heat could be detected from space.

Cali Bans Grand Juries for Cop Killings
California Gov. Jerry Brown signed a measure into law Tuesday that prohibits grand juries from involvement in cases in which law-enforcement officers use deadly force. Another measure he approved affirms the right of citizens to record police officers. The laws are only two among numerous measures that have been introduced this year to improve police accountability. The grand jury legislation was introduced in response to failures to indict accused officers in Ferguson, Missouri, and New York earlier this year.

3. MYSTERY
Archaeologist Says He's Found Nefertiti
A University of Arizona archaeologist claims he's found ancient Egypt's famed Queen Nefertiti, based on digital scans of a hidden chamber in an area near King Tut's tomb. Nicholas Reeves's theory suggests that behind one of Tut's tomb walls lie two previously hidden doors: one going to a storeroom, and another to the tomb of his mother, believed by some to be Nefertiti. "The implications are extraordinary, for, if digital appearance translates into physical reality, it seems we are now faced not merely with the prospect of a new, Tutankhamun-era storeroom to the west; to the north (there) appears to be signaled a continuation of tomb KV 62 (Tutankhamun's tomb), and within these uncharted depths an earlier royal interment—that of Nefertiti herself," he wrote. The Boy King's resting place, Reeves suggests, was an expansion of an earlier tomb built for the Egyptian queen.

Anti-Iran Deal Scientist Backs Deal
The leader of United Against Nuclear Iran quit his job last week, when the bipartisan advocacy group began to mobilize against the agreement. Gary Samore announced that he resigned from his post because his assessment of the deal found that "President Obama's strategy succeeded." "He has created economic leverage and traded it away for Iranian nuclear concessions," Samore said. He was replaced as head of the group by Joseph Lieberman, the former U.S. senator from Connecticut. In Lieberman's words, the agreement remains "a bad deal."

Study: Too Much Homework in Elementary
A study published by the American Journal of Family Therapy found that students in lower elementary school levels are doing too much homework. The recommended amount is about 10 minutes per night beginning in first grade, after which another 10 minutes is added every year. The study reported that first graders were doing nearly 30 minutes a night which is three times the recommended amount. The consequences of too much homework are higher stress levels and potentially worse social skills.

PAC to Take Over Broke Perry Campaign
Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry's cash-strapped campaign will be rescued by a political action committee, days after he announced plans to stop paying staffers. The Opportunity and Freedom PAC can't officially coordinate with the campaign, but it can carry out many of a campaign's functions independently—including canvassing, paying for ads, and other types of publicity. Perry's regular staff is said to be on board, too, despite the financial difficulties. "Everyone [but one person] is staying on board, from our senior advisers down to our young kids that live paycheck to paycheck," his campaign manager said. "They know what I know, which is that Rick Perry has a path forward."

The Latest Opinions From Bloomberg View

Aug 12, 2015 bloombergview.com

Congress

The Editors: "Congress's most recent fight over highway spending seemed awfully familiar. Once again, authorized cash for transportation projects was dwindling. Once again, no one could agree on a proper extension. And once again, Congress ended up passing a stopgap bill -- the 34th in six years, in fact. By now, it should go without saying that this is no way to pay for public works." Read more...

Work

Leonid Bershidsky: "France's famous 35-hour work week is in its death throes: Bloomberg News reports that an increasing number of companies are using the country's timid labor reform, introduced this year, to get around the requirement. It doesn't mean the experiment failed, but it has probably have outlived its usefulness." Read more...

Economics

Noah Smith: "Without the government research that created space technology, Elon Musk's SpaceX wouldn't have been created. But without Elon Musk, it also wouldn't have been created. Musk and the government are two links in a chain, each of which is indispensable." Read more...

Investing

Barry Ritholtz: "Myths that become Wall Street rules of thumb have existed for as long as there have been trading desks. They are legion, they pop up regularly and most of the time they are terribly wrong. Woe to the unwary trader who relies on the urban legends to inform an outlook." Read more...

Wall Street

Yves Smith: "The people who manage some of the country's largest public pension funds say they want government regulators to help them avoid getting ripped off when they invest in private equity firms. Instead, regulators should push them to do a better job of monitoring the investments on their own." Read more...

Russia

Marc Champion: "What were Russia and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization up to when they conducted large-scale military exercises over the past year? A report published Wednesday ignores bland official explanations and concludes, based on what moved where during the two maneuvers, that each was preparing for invasion by the other." Read more...
