| Sound Transit Sounder Mukilteo Station Construction Update Posted: 21 Nov 2014 01:48 PM PST CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: Mukilteo Station South Platform Concrete Pours After temporary plywood protection was installed on the sides of the pedestrian bridge a thin layer of concrete was poured to form the subfloor or decking (above photo). When the laminated safety glass walls are installed, the temporary plywood will be removed and permanent hand rails will be installed. Originally scheduled earlier, crews last week poured the concrete accessible ramp (mini high) on the south platform. Over the next two weeks, concrete curbs will be formed and poured. The curbs will be located between the steel columns on the passenger shelters and stairways. They provide the footings for the glass or solid wall panels to be installed between the columns. Roofing Takes Shape Commuters and passerby’s will notice the roofing taking shape on the passenger shelters, stairways and pedestrian bridge over the next two weeks as the remainder of the roofing substructure (pan decking) will be installed. Following immediately after, a layer of gypsum board will be installed over the substructure; a layer of moisture barrier will cover the gypsum board and then the final steel roofing material will be installed. The color will be a very light sparkly Champagne Gold that will contrast nicely with the darker structure. Mechanical/Electrical Rooms The project will include two mechanical rooms to support electrical and elevator operations for the station. Work is nearing completion on the south platform mechanical/electrical room structure as steel work and painting continued last week and this week. Substantial completion of the mechanical/electrical rooms, including roofs, wall panels and doors is necessary before installing the elevator equipment. Delivery of the elevator car cabs is expected by the end of the year. On-going arrivals and departures of Sounder remind crews of our commitment to serve commuters during major construction. They also serve as a reminder of the challenge of construction in the presence of frequent Sounder, Amtrak and freight trains. | Cheat Sheet - Ferguson Protesters Want Darren Wilson Dead Posted: 21 Nov 2014 11:50 AM PST | | Read This, Skip That .... | | | | | | November 21, 2014 | | NO PEACE Even before the grand jury decides the fate of Michael Brown's killer, things are getting ugly in Ferguson, Missouri. Justin Glawe reports from a protest outside police headquarters where angry demonstrators harassed black police, accusing them of supporting a murderer—and chanted for the death of Officer Darren Wilson. THEY BLEW IT Adam Lanza was "completely untreated" in the years prior to him killing 27 people, the state of Connecticut concluded in a blockbuster report released Friday. The Office of the Child Advocate said Lanza "did not receive sustained, effective" treatment for a variety of mental-health problems and red flags about him were ignored in incident after incident. Instead, Lanza's parents and school officials merely treated his superficial symptoms, like lotioning his hands rubbed raw by excessive washing. What's more, Nancy Lanza pulled Adam out of treatment with Yale clinicians in 2007 to keep him happy. The clinicians had diagnosed Lanza with profound emotional disabilities and an unspecified biological disorder. They even sent Lanza's father an urgent email about medication and the need for treatment, but his mother rejected the plan. The report did make clear, however, that these missed opportunities would not necessarily have prevented the massacre. ACTING ALONE For years the president has insisted he was no "emperor" and couldn't unilaterally enact the immigration measures he announced Thursday night. So what changed between then and now? Paul Campos explains the political gambit behind Obama's change of heart. MISSING STORY In a predominantly celebratory book, Bill Cosby's biographer deliberately glided over sex-abuse allegations, saying he was unable to substantiate them. Lloyd Grove talks to Mark Whitaker about "compartmentalization" and the downfall of Dr. Huxtable. LONG TIME COMING After making threats for months, House Republicans finally filed a lawsuit on Friday against the Obama administration for unilateral actions on the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. In its suit against the secretaries of Health and Human Services and Treasury, the GOP claims the administration unlawfully postponed the employer mandate. The suit also claims that the administration's $157 billion "giveaway" to insurance companies in the form of subsidies is illegal. "If this president can get away with making his own laws, future presidents will have the ability to as well. The House has an obligation to stand up for the Constitution, and that is exactly why we are pursuing this course of action," Speaker John Boehner said in a statement. | |
