Checking out the Tacoma Trestle
Tacoma residents were invited to an open house Thursday evening to review and comment on the preliminary structural design for the Tacoma Trestle & Signal Project. Architect David Clinkston, right, is seen here explaining the project.
Sound Transit is replacing the aging wooden single-track trestle with a new, concrete double-track bridge in Tacoma. The new trestle will increase rail capacity and improve reliability for additional Sounder and Amtrak trains. The project is currently in preliminary engineering with construction scheduled to begin in 2015 and completion in late 2017. In this roundup, we hope to pack seven days of our site’s breaking news into a tote of travel-size tidbits, small enough to fit any overhead bin.
This week, we learned exactly how pilots predict turbulence (spoiler alert: they don't).
We also learned if flying messes with your body (spoiler alert: it does). A warning from the pros: NEVER hold back on a mid-flight fart, no matter how pungent it may be. Evacuating your intestines is very important... even if you cause an evacuation of the plane.
Oh, and on your next long haul, don't sit in the back row. Whoever smelt it... probably sat near the lavatory.
If you're looking for a getaway this weekend, may we suggest you avoid Norway? With the least number of Zara stores per capita, we simply cannot bear the thought of winter in that franchise-free wasteland.
Cleveland, however, is apparently a very "magical" destination. We hate to break it to them, but just because the Browns won a few games this year does not mean the town is doused in unicorn confetti.
But one place that's really magical? (AND football-free?!) Mauritius. Happy weekend, travelers!
