| [New post] La New Nintendo 3DS Posted: 06 Sep 2014 12:00 PM PDT Miyo posted: "Lors d'un Nintendo Direct, la société japonaise a dévoilé sa nouvelle console portable nommée New Nintendo 3DS.

| Sound Transit CEO Report Posted: 05 Sep 2014 03:30 PM PDT | | | September 5, 2014 | | | | Mukilteo Station Construction is going well this summer on completing the Mukilteo Sounder station. Welding just finished up on the steel structure for the new pedestrian bridge that will connect the station’s two passenger platforms. Painting of the bridge also continued this week as crews prepare for additional concrete pours on the platforms. The Mukilteo Station isn’t new, it’s just being finished. Mukilteo Sounder service started in 2008 from a single platform on the north side of the tracks. The improvements underway now include a second platform on the south side of the tracks, the pedestrian bridge, permanent passenger shelters and public art. Construction should be finished early next year. Also this summer, an emphasis patrol targeting public safety around the tracks between Shoreline and Mukilteo was completed. The patrol was a joint effort of BNSF Railway Company, Mukilteo Police, Sound Transit and Washington Fish and Wildlife. Another emphasis patrol is scheduled soon. Seahawks Thursday Thanks for taking transit Thursday. As expected, crowds were huge around CenturyLink Field and surrounding neighborhoods for the afternoon concerts, celebrations and the opening of the Seahawks season. To handle the crush of riders, Link trains ran at peak-hour levels throughout the day and after the game. We also used extra buses. Trains and buses were jammed with 12 jerseys but service from all the area’s transit services worked well. The day was busy, but nothing like the Seahawks Super Bowl victory parade in February, when our trains and buses carried nearly 200,000 passengers. Annual Report Last year was a good one for Sound Transit. We provided over 30 million rides on our trains and buses, the most ever, and passenger fare revenue increased by $2.8 million from a year earlier. We continued planning and building our light rail extensions and we had another clean annual financial audit—the 19th year in a row. Also in 2013, tax revenues continued to recover from the 2009 recession increasing 7.4 percent from 2012. Those are some of the highlights in the Sound Transit 2013 Annual Report. You can read the entire report here. | Construction alert: U District Station Posted: 05 Sep 2014 03:10 PM PDT | Construction alert: U District Station September 5, 2014 What to expect in September 2014 The locations for the work listed below are shown on the map. 1. Continue digging for underground light rail station
Bulldozers are removing dirt and materials from the light rail station box. As crews dig down, wood planks or "lagging" are being installed between the piles to form the underground station walls. Crews will use three types of devices to secure the walls: struts, cable tie-backs, and soil nails. The most visible supports are large pipes (3 to 3.5 feet in diameter) called struts. The struts will span the station from east to west. The contractor will also drill horizontal holes between 50 and 120 feet long into the soil and install long cables, called tie-backs, into the holes and grout them in place. In select locations, crews will drill 40 to 45 foot long rods, called soil nails, into the soil to hold the station walls. Excavation at U District Station will be ongoing through spring 2015 Over 135,000 cubic yards of soil will be removed from the site (equates to over 40 Olympic size swimming pools). Crews will dig until they reach about 95 feet below ground. Excavation will be ongoing through spring 2015. 2. Begin to build the temporary roadway bridge along Northeast 43rd Street Crews will begin building the support foundations for the temporary roadway bridge along Northeast 43rd Street between Brooklyn Avenue Northeast and the alley. This will involve building wooden forms, installing metal rebar, and pouring concrete. Northeast 43rd Street is anticipated to re-open to one-way traffic in spring 2015. The roadway is open to local traffic between the alley and University Way Northeast, the "Ave." 3. Install electrical utilities to power construction activities Crews are installing electrical utilities within the project construction site near the intersection of Northeast 43rd Street and 12th Avenue NE to provide power for construction activities.
Construction impacts: - Closure of Northeast 43rd Street between Brooklyn Avenue Northeast and the alley to motorists until early 2015.
- Cranes and equipment located close to the sidewalk along Northeast 43rd Street.
- Noise from drilling the soil nails during excavation.
- Dust from soil removal and pouring of concrete.
- Frequent truck traffic on area roads and on the project site delivering materials and hauling materials offsite. Expect an average of four trucks per hour during excavation (daytime hours).
- Trucks delivering large loads during the early morning hours.
- Wheel washing stations to minimize truck debris track-out onto city streets.
Crews will work to minimize impacts, such as noise, dust, debris, and access impacts during the work. Equipment: bulldozers, dump trucks, concrete trucks, vacuum trucks, excavators, jackhammers, cranes, generators, water treatment systems, street sweepers Schedule: Work hours are typically Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Intermittent weekend and evening work may be scheduled. Construction schedules are subject to change. Notifications will be distributed for significant changes. | This email was sent to ahmedi.taleb.sassi.publication@blogger.com using GovDelivery, on behalf of: Sound Transit · 401 South Jackson St · Seattle WA 98104 · 206-398-5000 | | | |
| Weekend Roundup: Putin Uses 21st Century Strategy To Restore Old Czarist Realm Posted: 05 Sep 2014 02:44 PM PDT The WorldPost Weekend Roundup Putin Uses 21st Century Strategy To Restore Old Czarist Realm GETTY/WORLDPOST ILLUSTRATION As a fragile cease-fire takes hold in Ukraine after nearly five months of carnage, Vladimir Putin's long-term strategy has become clear. This week in The WorldPost Robert Coalson, writing from Prague, translates a recent essay by General Valery Gerasimov, the Russian military's chief of general staff, that lays out a new type of integrated plan that combines outside military pressure, inside rebel uprising and coordinated propaganda to destabilize a country. In a WorldPost interview, former U.S. National Security Adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski argues that Putin's intent is clear: to keep Ukraine outside the Western orbit and inside a Eurasian Union that is little more than a restored Czarist Empire. Julian Lindley-French and Jim Stavridis, who was Supreme Commander of NATO until last year, propose how NATO must be reshaped to meet Putin's challenge. Writing from Moscow, Vasily Kashin laments the onset of a "senseless" new Cold War that he says will waste a generation of lives. Writing from Beirut in the second installment of his essay on the roots of ISIS and its future impact on the Middle East, Alastair Crooke argues that the Islamic State's ultimate aim is to replace the House of Saud as the new Emirs of Arabia. Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, the cleric involved in the controversy over establishing an Islamic cultural center near the 9/11 Ground Zero site in New York, disassociates the teachings of Islam from ISIS. Husain Haqqani, the former ambassador of Pakistan to the U.S., argues that, in the wake of recent riots in Islamabad, the military has regained the upper hand -- even without a coup. From Istanbul, WorldPost Middle East Correspondent Sophia Jones chronicles the struggle of a long-established Jewish shop to stay open amid mounting violence against minorities. She also documents the worldwide response to Israel's recent land grab decision. This week, our " Forgotten Fact" column reminds readers that, despite all the attention on Iraq, Syria and ISIS, the U.S. is quietly pursuing a major counterterrorism effort in Africa. The WorldPost China Correspondent Matt Sheehan reports on how Beijing's plan for the nomination of a Hong Kong chief executive has fiercely divided public opinion. Anson Chan, who was chief secretary of Hong Kong from 1993 to 2001, worries that social turmoil will engulf that city-state unless Beijing changes course. Writing from Shanghai, constitutional scholar Tong Zhiwei argues that the prosecution of a former top Politburo member for corruption is establishing the rule of law in China. Writing from Tokyo, Toshiya Tsugami projects that Chinese President Xi Jinping's crackdown on freedom of expression will inevitably impact relations with all of China's neighbors. On global issues, U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon declares that time is running out to tackle climate change, which will be the focus of the upcoming General Assembly meeting later this month. Former CIA operative Valerie Plame Wilson takes up the cause of zero nuclear weapons in a world that's growing more dangerous by the day. Futurist Stowe Boyd wonders what will become of our jobs when robots take over. Finally, famed Bulgarian blogger Maria Popova offers her advice on how to "brainpick" the Internet and avoid information overload from the daily avalanche of data. NATO UPDATES REALNESS LEVEL FROM 'NOT KIDDING AROUND, HERE' TO 'DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU' - Eline Gordts: "Western leaders announced two major initiatives at the NATO summit in Wales on Friday, in an effort to show decisive action in the face of growing global threats. NATO member states voted on Friday to form a 'rapid response force' aimed at countering Russian aggression, while reassuring the organization's eastern member states that they would be protected in case of encroachment onto their territory. Countries such as Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia fear that Moscow may target them next...Also on Friday, the United Statesannounced in Wales that it was spearheading a "core coalition" to battle the militants of the Islamic State group, also known as ISIS. Since launching a lightning offensive in Iraq last June, IS has captured swathes of land in Iraq in addition to territory in Syria, and its fighters have been accused of brutal crimes and human rights offenses." Roll Call: " While visitors are allowed to carry water bottles, and can fill them up once they are inside, the guides who spend eight hours a day walking them through the Capitol and talking about Congress complain that their access to water has been severely limited by CVC management. CVC officials told CQ Roll Call that standard operating procedure related to drinking water at employee posts has not changed. Tom Fontana, director of marketing and communications for the CVC, said the policy is reviewed on an annual basis, and noted in his email there have been 'no changes to our guidelines.' However, union leaders say the way the bosses have recently tightened interpretation and enforcement of the policy has pushed it to the point that drinking water while on duty has effectively been outlawed." REALLY - President also promises to clean drain gutters this afternoon. Elise Foley: "President Barack Obama skirted a question on Friday over whether he will push back changes to deportation policy until after the midterm elections, instead promising he will consider it 'fairly soon.' Facing pleas from Senate Democrats, in particular, to hold off on making major changes to immigration policy, Obama and the White House have been increasingly vague about a timeframe for the executive action initially promised by the end of the summer. Obama told reporters in Wales that he has 'been pretty busy' this week dealing with foreign policy issues, but that Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and Attorney General Eric Holder have begun to provide him with recommendations for how to change immigration policy without Congress. The president said he'll likely read through some of those proposals on his flight back to the U.S. 'I'll be making an announcement soon,' Obama said." Mike McAuliff: "The latest congressional report on the Internal Revenue Service's botched review of nonprofit status applications by politically active groups finds no evidence of intentional wrongdoing or political bias...None of those investigations, however, have found evidence of intentional wrongdoing. The latest yearlong effort, by the Senate's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, comes to the same conclusion in a lengthy report released Friday. The report echoes the results initially found by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, but also criticizes that early inquiry for leaving out the liberal groups that also suffered excessive scrutiny." 'But as Arkansas' next U.S. senator, I'm going to make sure we have a healthy economy. Not the kind of minimum wage economy that Mark Pryor and Barack Obama have created.' 'The minimum wage should be a floor and a stepping stone to higher wage jobs, not a ceiling. And the way we create that kind of economy is not through higher taxes and regulations and laws like Obamacare, but through less taxes, through smarter regulations,' he added." [ HuffPost] HILLARY TO DECIDE ON WHITE HOUSE BID AFTER NEW YEAR'S - Samantha Lachman: "Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is beginning to give a more definitive timeline for when she'll decide whether to run for president, according to Reuters. 'I am going to be making a decision ... probably after the first of the year about whether I'm going to run again or not,' Clinton said at a Friday charity event hosted by Carlos Slim, the world's second-richest man, in Mexico City. A CNN reporter at the event tweeted that she said she has a "unique vantage point" on the presidency. In June, Clinton explained that she could consider forgoing a presidential run to focus on being a grandmother, and because she's enjoying the life she has outside the White House and presidential Cabinet."
